Poker spam for one, spam for all :(

Wow, I just spent a few minutes searching for information on the internet using different approaches than I normally use, and I feel sorry for anyone using those methods and hoping for useful information.

First pile of crap I saw; I was reading a legitimate blogger’s website where they’ve left the comments section open for posting without moderation. This fellow’s blog is a blog about blogging, but he’s got all kinds of spam comments posted, and all spam for poker sites. Makes me feel connected to an industry that’s polluting the internet. :(

Then later I run across a site purporting to be a backgammon site, but with an index of hundreds of “articles” on poker. I took a look at some of the articles, and they’re just garbage. Not well written, or even poorly written with spelling mistakes (as you see in spam emails written by people who don’t speak English, or by spammers trying to get past spam filters). These “articles” are written in a certain style where the objective seems to be to use as many words as possible to talk about a very limited aspect of poker, and then finish. No consideration for usefulness or readability, just talk, use words, then end so that another “article” can be written.

I’m no expert, but I suspect this is a style of writing targeted at search engines. When my blog was on Wordpress I would see this style of writing in spam blogs there. I used to do tag searches to browse other blogs that talked about poker and often found garbage like this for reporting to the moderators.
