the Waiting Game

Haven’t written for a while, ’cause things have been pretty unexciting. Still trying to find my way out of the funk that I’ve been in. Tried playing tighter, playing less tables, playing more tables at $10, nothing is doing much for me.

My run at the 210 FPPs has slowed, but that may be because I haven’t focused. I tried playing one while donking around with some friends on a 0.01/0.02 table, but even that slight distraction may have put me off. Mind you, I always get in tough situations in these because I play so tight early that eventually I have to shove/steal to survive, and that requires picking the right moments to do so. In the last one I called in the BB with 4 bbs left and 87s or something and the bubble not close yet. It really is not a crime to go down under 4 bbs in these things because it’s so much of a waiting game.

I really feel that my problem, in addition to running poorly, is trying to manage that edge of aggression. I’m 3 betting just a touch too often preflop, c-betting flops just a little too often, and not folding to raises, which are often minraises, just a little too often. I’m also a little too unwilling to give up on medium size hands that start out big, like overpairs or TPTK, a little too often.

I don’t whether this is due to

  • pressing, or
  • watching too many videos of higher stakes (fewer bad players, more aggression)
  • not the right attitude toward chips (I think I have a better concept in tournament settings)
  • not the right attitude toward the opposition (I can fold better in tournaments and against players that I know are good)
